Tom began flying at age sixteen in 1965 before he even had a driver’s license! After graduating from college , he began his professional flying career as an Air Mail pilot. In the years that followed, he advanced his aviation career through the yanks of cargo, airline and corporate, and is currently piloting the Dassault Falcon 7X and 8X all over the world.
Before there was flying, however, there was art. Tom began drawing and painting while in grade school and displayed remarkable talent to his teachers. Although many teachers persuaded him to make art his profession, Tom followed his heart to be a pilot, while maintaining his art as a method to record his passion for flight. Tom is also well known as an accomplished model airplane builder, having won numerous awards for these miniature works of art. It is oil painting, however, that Tom finds the most satisfaction for his creative process. Basically self-taught and inspired by aviation artists such as Frank Wooton, R.G. Smith, William Phillips and Craig Kodera, Tom brings to the canvas his many years of flying experience to create scenes that capture the realities of aircraft and the beauty of their realm.
Tom is an Artist Member of the ASAA, American Society of Aviation Artists. For over a decade, he was the staff artist for The Captain’s Log, an airliner enthusiasts publication of the World Airline Historical Society. His works of airliner art have been honored in competition and hang in the offices of several major corporations. Notable awards include the prestigious Best of Show award in the EAA Sport Aviation art competition, Aviation Week & Space Technology’s Best of the Best in the ASAA’s Art Exhibition and Best of Show in the SimuFlite Art Exhibit.
